Alimentos de Nuestra Tierra: Cocada

Today, we will share a tasty dessert called Cocada. Cocada is a baked coconut dessert made with grated coconut, condensed milk, water and sugar.

Coconut is abundantly found in Panama, but it is believed to have originated on the Pacific coast of Panama.

Coconut is used in a variety of ways; the milk is used in rice, its oil is used is various lotions and salves, coconut water is drunk to quench thirst and the dried pulp is used in cocadas of course.

The traditional cocada is usually brown with a round shape but you can find cocadas in a variety of shapes and colors. Some cocadas will even include raisins and rum.

On August 11, 2013 at Balboa Park from 12 - 4 pm come enjoy a Cocada or two. These sweet bite size delicacies are the perfect ending to a traditional Panamanian meal.
