House of Panama gives $1,000 Scholarship to UC Davis Student
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – In celebration of the 20th anniversary, the House of Panama awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Alessa Guerrero, a freshman at UC Davis.The scholarship competition was made available to class of 2009 high school graduates of Panamanian descent residing in the United States who were pursuing a higher education.
The House of Panama’s goal in issuing the scholarship was to assist Panamanian parents in their efforts to guide their children in pursuing a college education.The scholarship was awarded on the basis of an essay and academic standing.
The essay was to address the following questions: Why it is important for all Panamanians to become a member of the House of Panama? How will this scholarship help you give back to the Panamanian community?
The House of Panama is a non-profit organization that presents the traditions, music and culture of the Republic of Panama.The House of Panama is the only Panamanian cultural organization in a museum setting outside of the Isthmus of Panama. We are one of 32 National Groups under the umbrella of the House of Pacific Relations, International Cottages, Inc., located in BalboaPark, San Diego, CA.
The House of Panama’s main goal is to build a cottage in BalboaPark in order to highlight the music, dance, customs, arts, crafts, and ethnic foods of Panama.Donations to the House of Panama are 100% tax deductible and can be made on-line at the House of Panama website at http://www.houseofpanama.org.
